A person who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.

She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the police a second time.

She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
