The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
